Objective:
Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU), Pookode launched distribution of goat to Scheduled-Caste clusters of Wayanad District, Kerala under “ICAR Scheduled Caste- Sub Plan 20-21 project on “Establishment of Goat Nursery and Satellite goat farm in Schedule Caste clusters of Wayanad, Kerala”. The selected beneficiaries were trained in goat farming by faculties of College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Pookode.

Prof (Dr). M.R.Saseendranath,Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Pookode, Wayanad, Kerala,distributed the Malabari female and male goats to Perunthatta and Kalpetta Municipality Scheduled-Caste beneficiaries. The distribution function waspresided by Registrar, Prof.(Dr). Sudheer Babu K, Registrar, Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Pookode, Wayanad, Kerala. Dr.N.Ashok, Director of Academics and Research, Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Pookode explained the significant role of KVASU to promote Scheduled Caste beneficiary’s economic development through cluster-oriented satellite goat farm by providing adult female and bucks of Malabari breed to the Schedule caste families living below the poverty line.The ICAR project principal investigatorDr.S.Senthil Murugan, Assistant Professor, CVAS, Pookode described that totally 125 applicants were selected for training from 300 applicants from Kalpetta SC development block. Totally 110 female and 12 male adult Malabari goats will be distributed to 50 selected beneficiaries from Kalpetta municipality, vengapally, Thariode, Padinjarathara, Vythiri and Meppadi panchayats. They will receive feed for goats, dewormers, mineral mixture at free of cost for a period of 6 months.Dr.Koshy John, Dean College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Pookodedelivered vote of thanks all the dignitaries and beneficiaries.
