Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) came into existence on 14th June, 2010 as per Ordinance No. 44/2010 and later Act 3/2011 of the Government of Kerala. The establishment of the University was the result of the recognition of the need to advance animal production sector activities. Twenty animal production-related institutions of Kerala Agricultural University including three colleges were transferred to the newly formed University. KVASU now undertakes academic, research, extension and entrepreneurship activities in animal production and dairy sector.

 

The University is empowered to award degrees as specified by the UGC under section 22 of the UGC act 1956 through its main campus in regular mode with the approval of statutory bodies /councils, wherever required.

 

The University and the two constituent Veterinary Colleges, one at Mannuthy, Thrissur and the other one at Pookode, Wayanad were approved for accreditation by the ICAR for a period of five years from 2016 to 2021. The colleges of Dairy Science and Technology received accreditation in 2017 for a period of five years.

 

There are three faculties in the University namely, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Faculty of Dairy Science and Faculty of Poultry Science and seven constituent colleges including Veterinary, Dairy Science and Technology and Poultry Science

College of Dairy Science and Technology, Mannuthy regained ICAR accreditation.

Dr. Varghese Kurien Institute of Dairy and Food Technology and new Teaching and Veterinary Clinical Complex at Mannuthy campus are nearing their completion.

Provision for Best Teacher Awards both at university and College levels, inspiring and inciting the faculty.

Provision for motivational training classes for around 75 para-technical and administrative staff at University Headquarters.

Improving student amenities like laboratory, examination halls, faculty /staff amenities like office furniture. Strengthened Libraries of the University Colleges by utilizing the ICAR funds.

Establihed ICAR Nodal cell and procured necessary equipment items for its operation.

Around 35 faculties were benefitted by attending meetings/seminars, etc utilizing ICAR funds.

Reinforced the security systems in the student hostels.

University employees were given opportunities for development of organizational skills and motivational skills.

Purchased three major equipment items costing 163.0555 lakhs for Central Instrumentation Laboratory, CVAS ,Mannuthy
