About the university

University of Agricultural Sciences,Raichur came into existence on 22-11-2008 through bifurcation from UAS,Dharwad vide Karnataka Act. No: 10 of 2010 of the Governor of Karnataka.It was indeed a decade back demand put forth by the people of Hyderabad-Karnataka which is having diverse climatic conditions and farming situations.It is the third Agricultural University established in the state after Bengaluru and Dharwad in Karnataka.Raichur is privileged with an oldest establishment for Agricultural Research.An Agricultural Research station was established by the Nizam Government of Hyderabad in the year 1932 with a specific mandate to carry out research on dry land farming.Later,it was identified as Oilseed Research Station.With the establishment of State Agricultural University in Karnataka at Bengaluru during 1964,it was elevated to the status of Regional Research Station with a mandate to undertake research on all important crops of the Hyderabad-Karnataka region,which is presently redesignated as Main Agricultural Research Station under UAS,Raichur.Agricultural Engineering Institute (AEI) was added to Raichur campus during 1969 to offer Diploma in Agricultural Engineering which was further upgraded to College of Agricultural Engineering during 1987 to offer B.Tech degree in Agricultural Engineering.The college of Agriculture as an additional feather was added during 1984 to cater to the need of agricultural education.With the establishment of UAS,Dharwad in 1986,Raichur still had the privilege of being the second largest campus and a major hub of education in this region.
