About the university

Sri Karan Narendra Agriculture University, Jobner was established on 13th September, 2013 by Govt. of Rajasthan vide Act No. 20 of 2013 and amendment ordinance No. 23 of 2013 to focus on teaching, research and extension education programmes in the field of agriculture. The University was named as Sri Karan Narendra in the honour and memory of the outstanding and well known pioneer of Agriculture Education in Rajasthan, Rawal Narendra Singh Ji and his father Shri Karan Singh Ji, who founded Sri Karan Narendra College of Agriculture at Jobner in1947. The University was established with the primary objective of upliftment of economically backward classes particularly of rural areas to adopt the modern practices in the field of agriculture, animal husbandry and horticulture.

Objective

1. For imparting education in different branches of Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries, Forestry, Agricultural Engineering, Home Science, Basic science and other allied branches.
2. Advancement of learning and research in Agriculture and allied sciences.
3. Undertaking the extension education of such sciences and technologies especially for the rural people of the state and other objectives as the university may determine from time to time.

Achievements

1.The university has made significant improvement in the quality of teaching. This can be judged from the increased intake of students in IARI, increased number of JRF, SRF and other national fellowships obtained by students, competitive performance of the students in obtaining private and Govt. placements. The College students secured more than 40-45% positions in the Assistant Agriculture Officer and Agricultural officers recruitment in the year 2010 and again in 2013 conducted by RPSC.

2.There has been a major impact of the university on socio-economic condition of the people of the Rajasthan particularly nearby area of Jaipur district. The number of under graduate girls has been increased during last five years up to 51% in (2014-15). At present the number of girl students in I and II year is 53%.

3.Student research quality has improved as can be seen in the linear increase in publications of research papers from Ph D theses published in NAAS rated journals. Because of the practical training of the students in experiential learning modules, many students have taken up establishment of private enterprises.

4.There has been regular increase in number of under-graduate students receiving different type of scholarships as, 272 in 2010-11, 310 in 2011-12 and 361 in 2012-13 and 474 in 2013-14.

5.The university has developed TFL and breeders seed of seed spices, taramira Kharif pulses and cluster bean and elite planting material of Aloe vera and sold it to cater the need of farmers and business entrepreneurs. In addition, many students have developed their own entrepreneurship like Aloe vera juice extraction, poultry farm, vermi-composting unit, dairy farming, nursery business etc.

6.Human Resource Development of the faculty through participation in National/International conferences and seminars.

7. Participation of the faculty in winter/summer schools to update with the latest developments in the field of agriculture and allied sciences.

8.Development of entrepreneurship and self employment skills in the students by the implementation of 5th Deans committee recommendation in the university, particularly the student READY programme.

9.Development of modern teaching facilities to impart quality education to the students in higher agricultural education programmes of the university.

10.Overall personality development of the students through participation in Agrifest, Unifest, Inter university sports and cultural meets and extra-curricular activities.
