World Soil Day 2019 celebrations were organized by the Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, College of Agriculture, Vellayani, on 05.12. 2019. Various activities in connection with World Soil Day theme – “Stop Soil Erosion, Save Our Future” viz. planting seedling, soil day pledge, conducting competitions like Essay writing, Poster and Collage preparation on the soil day theme and distribution of prizes to winners and distribution of Soil Health Card to farmers were conducted. The Dean, College of Agriculture presided over the function. The release of technical bulletin titled “Solid Waste Management Technologies: A boon for healthy soil and society” on various technologies for solid waste management developed by Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, College of Agriculture, Vellayani and soil fertility map of Balaramapuram Panchayat, Thiruvananthapuram as a part of Soil Test Module of RAWE Programme – 2019 was also done on this occasion. An exhibition on “Soil health management” was also conducted. The meeting was followed by a technical seminar on “What ails coconut in Kerala” by Dr. K. M. Nair, renowned Soil Scientist and Head (Rtd.), NBSS&LUP (ICAR), Bengaluru.
