About the university

Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University (SVVU), Tirupati was established vide Act No.18, 2005 of Government of Andhra Pradesh to strengthen education, research and extension activities in Veterinary, Dairy and Fishery Sciences in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The University has three faculties i.e., Veterinary Science, Dairy Science and Fishery Science and started functioning from 15-7-2005 from ANGRAU campus and independently at Tirupati from 1-4-2006.

A total of 27 institutions comprising of 3 Veterinary Colleges , 1 College of Dairy Technology, 1 College of Fishery Science, 7 Animal Husbandry Polytechnics, 1 Fisheries Polytechnic, 1 AICRP on Pigs, 7 Livestock Research Stations, 2 Fisheries Research Stations, 1 State Level Disease Diagnostic laboratory, 1 Krishi Vigyan Kendra, 1 Centre for Continuing Veterinary Education and 1 Veterinary Hospital spread all over the state are the constituent institutions of the University. The University offers UG & PG degree programmes in the three faculties while Ph.D programme is offered only in faculty of Veterinary Science. The Veterinary Council of India prescribed curriculum for B.V.Sc & A.H course was adopted in the year 1994 and has been updated as per 2008 and 2016 VCI regulations. The updated 2016 regulations are being implemented from the Academic Year 2016-17 onwards., the UG Curriculum and Regulations prescribed by the V Deans Committee of ICAR are being implemented from the Academic year 2016-17 onwards for B.F.Sc and B.Tech (Dairy Technology) programmes. The University also offers a two year Diploma programme in Animal Husbandry and in Fishery Science for rural youth who have completed 10th class (senior secondary certificate) to cater to the requirements of para veterinary and para fishery staff of the state.
