About the university

MaharanaPratap University of Agriculture and Technology, Udaipur (MPUAT), the second Agricultural University of the state, initially named as Agricultural University, Udaipur came into existence on 1st November, 1999 by bifurcation of the Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner through promulgation of Government of Rajasthan Ordinance No. 6 of 1999, which became an Act in May, 2000.  This has been done in view of wide physiographic variation including crops, cropping pattern, climate, soil parameters, etc. The province of MPUAT spread over 7 districts in the southern part of the state of Rajasthan. These districts are Banswara, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Dungarpur, Pratapgarh, Rajsamand and Udaipur. It covers two agro-climatic regions of the state, which are (i) Sub-Humid Southern-plain and Aravalli hills (VI-A) covering Bhilwara, Rajsamand and parts of Chittorgarh and Udaipur and (ii) Humid Southern Plain (IV-B) covering Banswara, Dungarpur, Pratapgarh and parts of Udaipur and Chittorgarh district

Objective

The university's main objective is to train need based quality human resource in consonance with need of the public and private sector organizations, conduct basic and applied research to solve both the existing and long term problems; and arrange Human Resource Development (HRD) programmes for effective transfer of technology to the officers and supervisory staff of the Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Soil Conservation and Watershed Management, Animal Husbandry, etc. The specific objectives are as follows:

  1. Imparting teaching and training in different branches of agriculture and allied fields particularly Horticulture, Fisheries, Dairy, Forestry, Engineering, Home Science etc.
  2. The advancement of learning and conducting research, seeking solutions to emerging problems in Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Animal Science, Home Science, Dairy and Food Science and other allied sciences.
  3. Transfer of technology to farmers and farming community and government and non government agricultural organizations through various extension programmes especially for the rural people of the state of Rajasthan.
  4. Providing diverse technical services and consultancy in industries allied to agriculture to optimize resource utilization and for proper harnessing of technologies generated in the laboratories and fields.
  5. Developing linkages nationally and internationally for education, research and extension education.

 

Achievements

1. New laboratories and infrastructural facilities have been created for better academic environment.
2. New equipments have been procured to strengthen the laboratories for academic activities, conduct of practical with state-of-art and latest facilities for the UG and PG students.
3. Library facilities have been strengthened giving access to latest and up to date literature to students.
4. Sports facilities for students have given opportunity to show their talent and win medals at state and natural level.
5. Girls and International hostel facilities gave handy environment to girls for better academic performance.
6. The repair and maintenance of old hostels were accomplished through the grant received for renovation/refurbishment.
7. The final year students got opportunity to avail the educational tour.
8. The staff and students got opportunity to present their research work at different forums through participation in National Seminar/Conferences, etc. with the financial support from the ICAR Development Grant.
9. New projects and researches were conducted in the University through ICAR assistance.
10. The educational museum depicting all the technologies under one roof gives the opportunity to visitors to have first-hand information of university technologies.
