About the university

OUAT was established as the 2nd oldest Agricultural University of the country and is the lone farm varsity of the state. It undertakes triple functions of teaching, research and extension education in an integrated manner. There are ten constituent colleges and a Centre for Post Graduate Studies under the University, offering various Undergraduate courses viz. Agriculture, Veterinary Science &Animal Husbandry, Agricultural Engineering & Technology, Horticulture, Fishery Science, Forestry, Community Science, Basic Science. Master course programmes are offered in 16 disciplines each in Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences, three each in Agricultural Engineering and Community Science, five each in Forestry and Basic Sciences and one in Aquaculture. Besides this the Centre for Post Graduate Studies offers Master courses in Computer Science and Application, Biotechnology, Bio-informatics and Agri-business Management under self finance schemes. Doctoral course programmes are offered in 14 disciplines in Agriculture, 12 in Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, three in College of Agricultural Engineering, one in Fishery sciences and five in Basic Science. Out of these ten colleges, six are in Bhubaneswar and four are lying outside. Ten Agro-Polytechnic Centres became operative from 2012-13 academic session spreading over 10 Agro-climatic Zones of the State where diploma courses in Agriculture and allied sciences are offered. Research and extension programmes are carried out in all ten agro-climatic zones of the state through 8 RRTTS, 4 RRTTSS, 52 AICRIP projects and 31 KVKs located at different parts of Odisha.

Objective

v Assisting production to consumption. Assist food and agricultural production system of Odisha to reach their full potential in an environmentally and socially compatible and economically profitable way.

v Developing human and farming community potential. The ultimate goal is to improve the quality of life including socioeconomic status, self-esteem, health and leadership abilities. OUAT is dedicated to provide educational opportunities and science-based information to the farmers and other stakeholders to meet the challenges of the new millennium.

v Enhancing sustainable use of agricultural resources. The university is committed to improve the management and conservation of agricultural and natural resources that affect human welfare.

v Developing food and other bio-based products for value-addition and new uses. The university programs will orient how technology is used to increase the market value of food, feed, fuel and fibre products.

 

Achievements

1.     OUAT secured Second position at National level in the Horticulture Science and Forestry category in the ICAR-JRF examination 2016.

2.     Two students of CAET won cash prize of Rs.1.00 lakh for developing App. on Agricultural Insurance in the event Ag Hack organized by CII at Chandigarh during November, 2016.

3.     Three students of College of Agriculture, Bhubaneswar won the Best Paper Award for their paper Sustainable multi fuel improved cook stove in the competition organized by Project Council an European Citizens Initiative (ECI) & Union Ministry of Urban Development at Chennai on 19th November, 2016

4.     The grants received from ICAR and support from State Govt. helped OUAT to regain accreditation to College of Fisheries, Rangailunda

5.     The Central lab. Of the University was strengthened and made operational

6.     Infrastructure developed for accommodating increasing number of girl students at the headquarters

7.     OUAT has restructured its academic curricula as per the recommendation of ICAR- 5th Deans Committee and MSVE -2016 from academic year 2016-17 with 30% alterations in the course syllabus as per local need.

8.     The University is first in the country to implement Student READY (Rural Entrepreneurship and Awareness Development Yojana) emphasizing on Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE), Experiential Learning Programme (ELP) and In-plant training.

9.     Central library was strengthened with purchase of books, journals and subscription of e-journals. Agriculture Education division of ICAR has issued Certificate of Appreciation to OUAT on 27.01 2017 for commendable contribution towards strengthening and sustainable implementation of e- Granth programme by uploading more than 1000 digitized PG and Ph.D. theses in Krishi Kosh portal.

10.  Facilities created for centralized examination for UG and PG programs. Automation of entrance examination (2017-18) and tabulation of grade sheets (2016-17) has been done for maintaining transparency and timely declaration of results
