About the university

 

Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU) was established under the name of Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University (APAU) on the 12th of June 1964 through the APAU Act 1963. Later, it was renamed as Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University on the 7th of November, 1996 in honour and memory of the noted Parliamentarian and Kisan Leader, Acharya N. G. Ranga.

At the verge of completion of Golden Jubilee Year of the ANGRAU, it has given birth to a new State Agricultural University namely Prof. Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University with the bifurcation of the state of Andhra Pradesh as per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act 2014. The ANGRAU at LAM, Guntur is serving the students and the farmers of 13 districts of new State of Andhra Pradesh with renewed interest and dedication.

Objective

To provide opportunities for the citizens of the state and the country for education in the field of agriculture in its broad sense and to promote research and extension programmes in agriculture and allied sciences. Strengthen UG and PG teaching through periodic revision of syllabi to meet the challenges in fast changing scenario of agriculture.

To establish the required infrastructure to conduct location specific research in the field of agriculture and allied sciences.

To generate technologies to improve farm production and income to farmers.

To provide the needed assistance to the development departments of the Government and other agencies to test and disseminate the improved technologies developed.

To provide opportunities for rural youth and women for learning and adoption of improved agro-technologies.

To revitalize the extension activities through the creation of specific infrastructure in each district.

To adopt advancements in information technology and computers to improve the formal academic programmes and introduce non-formal distance and contact learning programmes for the benefit of farmers, rural youth and women.

 

 

Achievements

CAE, Bapatla:

Developed digital class rooms with advanced LCD projectors including computers.

Digital library is well equipped with 40 computers having high end configuration with 20 MBPS internet speed to utilize the electronics information, namely CeRA, CAB abstracts, Krishiprabha, EBSCO, Net base e-books, CAB e-books etc.

Smart board is installed for students use for power point presentation.

Campus has been kept under surveillance of CCTV circuit covering class rooms, hostels, grounds and college corridors.

As per the V Deans committee recommendations, course curriculum for the B.Tech (Agril. Engg.) students was prepared and finalized.

One third year B.Tech (Agril. Engg.) student was participated in International Youth Seminar during 23rd to 27th April, 2016 at Mahaboobnagar, Telangana.

Personality Development Classes were conducted to the students to improve communication skills to face group discussion and personal interviews.

Yoga classes were conducted by Art of Living organization to the students.

Conducted campus interviews for the final year students and 22 Nos. of students got the placement in various organizations.

NSS student volunteers participated in various activities like blood donation, clean and green, plantation and activities under Swatch Bharat Programme. Created awareness to the farmers on the agricultural practices and conducted demonstrations of various agricultural machinery.

Construction of ELP building, Hostels for both Boys and girls are in progress which are sanctioned under NABARD funds.

Agricultural college, Bapatla:

Purchase of advanced equipment like Electrophoresis units, Environmental chamber and UV- Visible spectrophotometer has improved the quality of post graduate practical classes.

Addition of Educational KIOSK to the development has facilitated the visiting farmers and students in providing the information on advances in Entomology.
