About the university

Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture & Technology, Kanpur a premier Agriculture institution of the nation serving since 1893, was established on March 1975 with two constituent colleges viz. U.P. Institute of Agricultural Sciences at Kanpur with mandate of the Making provision for the education of rural people of Uttar Pradesh in different branches of agriculture, including rural industry and business and other allied subjects, furthering the frontiers of research in agriculture and allied sciences; and for undertaking field and extension programmes in its service area and U.P. College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry at Mathura which was upgraded to the status of separate University. It has maintained meritorious records of research, teaching and extension education since its inception. The University has huge catchment area, spread over in 29 districts (Kanpur, Kanpur Dehat, Auraiya, Etawah, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Mainpuri, Etah, Agra, Firozabad, Mathura, Aligarh, hathras, Kasganj, Hardoi, Sitapur, Lucknow, Lakhimpur Kheri, Unnao, Raebareli, Fatehpur, Kaushambi, Jalaun, Jhansi, Lalitpur, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Banda, Chitrakoot) & seven commissionaires (Kanpur, Lucknow, Allahabad, Agra, Aligarh, Jhansi and Chitrakoot Dham) of Uttar Pradesh, which covers three agro-climatic zones of UP (South Western Semi-Arid, Central Plain and Bunelkhand).

The Governor of Uttar Pradesh is the Chancellor and Head of the University. The Vice Chancellor is the principal executive and academic officer of the University. There are seven faculties viz. Faculty of Agriculture, Home Science, Forestry and Horticulture at Kanpur and Faculty of Agricultural Engineering, Dairy Technology and Fisheries at Etawah to cater teaching needs under various degree programmes. Dean is the Chief executive and academic officer of the respective faculty. The selection process for faculty in College of Agriculture, Lakhimpur Kheri is under process.

Director Agricultural Experiment Station coordinates all research needs of area jurisdiction of the University in cooperation with respective Deans. Four Research Sections (Rabi Cereals, Oilseeds, Legumes and Vegetables), three regional research stations (Daleepnagar-Kanpur, Kalai-Aligarh and Bharari-Jhansi) and their five sub stations (Saini-Kaushambi, Mainpuri, Hazratpur-Firozabad, Belatal-Mahoba and Mawai Bujurg-Banda) and fourteen research farms are mandated and equipped to undertake the location specific, problem solving and production oriented multi disciplinary researches and to develop technology suited for different agro-climatic regions. In the light of the changes that are taking place in the sphere of information technology, University has established a well functioned AKMU and a centralized computer laboratory which takes care for networking of departments, research sections, extension and other units of the University. All the departments are linked and facilities for networking are provided to the students and faculties to cater their needs.

University has assumed added responsibility of arranging on-farm vocational agro-allied programmes for the farmers of area jurisdiction of the University. Director Extension executes all extension programmes in cooperation with Dean of College and Director of Research. Eighteen Krishi Vigyan Kendras (Daleepnagar-Kanpur, Kannauj, Farrukhabad, Etawah, Mainpuri, Hazratpur-Firozabad, Hathras, Aligarh, Hardoi, Lakhimpur Kheri, Raebareli, Thariaon-Fatehpur, Banda, Belatal-Mahoba, Hamirpur, Jalaun, Bharari-Jhansi and Lalitpur) have been established with financial support of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi are actively involved in transforming lab to land programmes to empower farmers and to improve their agro-socio economy. Agriculture Technology Information Centre (ATIC) is in operation with toll free number 1800 180 5122 to provide single window service/ care for the farmers. The University has introduced unique mobile seed sale van to ensure availability of its quality seeds at the door step of farmers residing in the remote areas.

The University undertakes the responsibility of generating basic seed material and its multiplication in the form of breeder, foundation and certified seeds for National Seed Production Chain, ultimate for use of the farmers under supervision of Director Seed & Farms.

The Registrar issue academic calendar and maintain the minutes of the meetings of the Academic Council, conduct the official correspondence of the Academic Council, responsible for admission of students to the University including the supervision of the entrance examination, have charge of registration of students and maintain records of all degrees and diplomas conferred by the University.

The Dean Students Welfare is responsible to provide messing arrangements for students, ensure medical assistance, arrangements for scholarship, stipends, part-time employments and other such assistance, travel facilities for student holidays, communicate with the guardians of students concerning the welfare of the students, exercise general control over the physical education programme at University.

The Central Library of the University established in the year 1907 as College of Agriculture Library which was name in 1967 as Institute of Agricultural Sciences Library. Finally, it was named as Central Library. It has a good number of collections of valuable and literature of books, reference books, periodicals, thesis, subjective and competitive magazines, reports, bulletins, encyclopedias, maps, gazetteers, dictionaries, agricultural statistical records etc.

Placement Cell arranges the job opportunity to students of different programmes across the faculties besides their career counseling.

Comptroller is a custodian of all properties of the University, issue notices and maintain the minutes of all meetings of the Board of Management, collect income and fees and disburse the payments and maintain the account of the University, sign all contracts made on behalf of the University; and perform such other duties that may be required from time to time by the BOM or by the Vice Chancellor.

Director Administration and Monitoring assists the Vice Chancellor in respect of day to day administrative matters of the University. The security officer takes care of all the security issues of the University. Estate and Administrative Officer look after the general beautification of the campus, allotment of houses to the officers and employee of the University. University Engineer monitors and maintains the construction and maintenance of the buildings and physical facilities etc. prevailing in the campuses.

University posses fully air conditioned auditorium (Kailash Bhawan) with sitting capacity of 1000 students and faculty members and facilitate in organizing the programmes. All the students admitted in various degree programmes are housed in well furnished hostels. Girls students provided separate girls hostels. The foreign students are housed in International Hostel.

There are sufficient playground facilities are available in both the campuses. The facilities like cafeteria, guest house, bank, post office, information centre, gymnasium, swimming pool, football ground, dispensary, sales outlets, etc. are available in the campus. University posses fully air conditioned VIP and other guest houses. Besides, Sir Mayadas, Swaminathan and Teachers Guest houses are also available in the University premises. Dr. Babu Singh and Farmers guest house are also available for stay of farmers. University possess well equipped printing press which takes care of all type of publications and printing related matters

Objective

v  The Perspective Plan of the University has focused attention on changing global economy in agriculture-based industries.

Achievements

1.Maintenance of well renowned Historical Building called as Patthar College in its original shape.

2. Since the Agriculture College is one of the oldest Colleges of the Country, most of the departments and research sections are housed in spacious buildings with abundant land.

3.The university achieved a grand success concerned with their students of UG, PG and Ph.D. to attain getting government jobs (more than 90%) and skill development.

4.Establishment of centralized computer lab, modernization of class rooms, smart class rooms, agriculture museum, maintenance of students hostels and sport facilities etc.

5.Strengthening of internet connectivity and Wi-Fi facility among in hostels premises, different departments in college campus and library.

6.Strengthening and up-gradation of scientific communities in knowledge and skill development through organisation and participation in different seminar, symposia and conferences at national and international level.

7.Students' hostel facilities exist in all the campuses. Home Science College has been provided with separate undergraduate and postgraduate girls' hostels. Three Girls hostel has been constructed at Etawah Campus.

8.Dispensaries are available at Kanpur & Etawah campuses to cater the medical needs of students and staff.

9.Teaching infrastructure has been continuously upgraded as per the ICAR norms.

10.The university has constantly endeavoured to build infrastructure, which is essential and has a direct impact on the performance of the University.
